You have questions about Therapy.
We want to answer them.

How do I start Therapy?
If you are ready to book your first therapy appointment you can call our office or send us an email (Please check your spam folder for our reply). We will have a quick chat to discuss your counselling needs and pair you with a therapist we think will be the best fit for you. You may also choose who you would be most comfortable working with.
Once we find a time that works for you, we’ll send an email with a link to our online portal where we have some documents for you to complete before you come in. This is so you and your therapist are not spending your first appointment doing paperwork together!
What are Counselling sessions like?
Each therapist has their own unique way of working with their clients. In general, the first few counselling sessions are spent getting to know you and your unique story. Your psychotherapist will work hard to earn your trust and help make the experience as comfortable as possible for you.
From there, goals and dreams are discussed and a road map is created to help get you to where you want to be. Of course the map can be adjusted at any time. We can help you see what is possible- even if you aren’t able to see it for yourself right now. Our therapists are open to your feedback and will always offer you support and empowerment throughout the entire therapeutic process.
Will I have to drudge up the past?
The simple answer would be yes, however, to what extent is unique to each individual and their psychotherapist. There is absolutely no pressure to bring up things that are difficult to share as this comes with time and trust. However, in the first counselling session or two, it is likely that a brief family history will be discussed so your therapist can get a sense of your past. Of course, you and your psychotherapist together will have to figure out what is important to discuss, and what is not. Sometimes, we have to heal the past to be able to move forward in the present.
It is important to remember that we are not defined by our past, but it does affect how we see and experience our world. Once you start to understand and think about what drives the negative or unhelpful thoughts, behaviours and patterns that are harming you in the present, you will become empowered to make small but meaningful changes where needed.
How Long is each therapy session?
Although a full hour is scheduled for you, the actual therapy session lasts about 50 minutes. This allows your therapist to use the remaining few minutes to complete session notes and prepare for your next session.
What is the Fee for Psychotherapy?
Our fees range from $145 to $160 per session. The fee for services will be discussed with you before you book your first appointment.
Many extended health benefits cover the cost of therapy. We will provide you with everything you need to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
